Artist of the Day…Mark Ryden

Today’s artist is illustrator and painter Mark Ryden. I’ve mentioned Mark Ryden before, so I thought I’d delve deeper into some of his artwork.  He was at the forefront of the revitalized Surrealist movement in the early 1990’s and has been commission to create work for a variety of musicians including Ringo Starr, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Michael Jackson. He hs also designed book covers for two Stephen King books – “Desperation” and “The Regulators”.

Of course, I discovered Ryden throught learning about the album artwork for Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous”, but I fell even more in love with Ryden’s work after researching him more. I love the painting style, but I enjoy the dark elements as well. It’s fun to see such beautiful artwork portray sinister themes.

Enjoy!
