Designer of the Day…Mary Katrantzou

Today’s amazing fashion designer is Mary Katrantzou, whom I absolutely love because of her use of bold graphic colors and prints. Katrantzou was educated at both the Rhode Island School of Design as well as Central Saint Martins and honed her skills in the area of textile design. Nothing is more apparent of her expertise than her awesome pieces which often have motifs resembling oversized necklaces. This blurred vision between accessory and garment makes every piece Katrantzou creates a statement piece.

Her Spring 2010 collection is a fusion of the organic and free-formed. Katrantzou’s inspiration was the usually exquisite shape and form of the perfume bottle and she really brings that forth in her plethora of dresses. I love the trompe l’oeil patterns she uses as well. Bold, graphic, and feminine are so eye-catching when they’re done right and Mary Katrantzou most definitely has done it right!
