Artist of the Day…Yellena James

Today’s designer is illustrator/painter Yellena James. I really enjoy her colorful and somewhat whimsical illustrations of nature scenes.

James is based in Portland, OR and has shown in galleries worldwide. An interesting tidbit about her is that she fled Sarajevo in the 90’s to escape the civil war that had been going on at that time. She went to a fine arts school that was surrounded by snipers which she says really fueled her passion for her art. Once she came to America, she obtained a graphic design degree and went on to show in galleries and do illustration work for Anthropologie, Nike, and Design Sponge.

I really like how organic, yet alien her work looks…some of these scenes could be something straight out of Avatar! Great, great work! If you’d like to own a piece of this awesomeness, she also sells prints at her Etsy site.
