Good morning! How was your weekend? Good I hope…I wish it was still the weekend, lol…it would make it so much easier to get up and out of bed in the mornings, haha! Alas, though, Monday morning always comes around like clockwork, so it’s off to the daily grind.
Anyways, like I said earlier, I hope this past weekend was a good one for you guys. Mine was very chill and pretty much boring if I must say so myself. On Friday, the sis and I went out to dinner at Khan’s Mongolian BBQ…if you have not tried this place, you absolutely must. It’s a great overall dining experience…you start out with a raw buffet where you can choose from a variety of meats and veggies. You then add a variety of oils and sauces to add to the taste of whatever you selected. There’s everything ranging from a mild house sauce to the quite spicy dragon sauce. Once you do that, you take your bowl up to the cooking station where the cooks stir-fry it up on these circular griddles…and then you can ring this giant gong as a thank you! The food is delicious and the best part is that it’s all you can eat! Needless to say, I was one content and stuffed chick. The rest of my weekend consisted of me working at the fabric store on Saturday morning (I didn’t buy anything during my shift so I suppose that was a highlight) and cleaning up during the rest of the day. Well let me take that back…attempted to clean up during the rest of the day, but I got a migraine on Saturday morning that basically didn’t go away until…well this morning! Consequently, I slept for most of the day on Saturday…and forced myself to do laundry and clean on Sunday. I had plans to sew…but that certainly didn’t happen.
I don’t really have anything planned for the rest of the week. I would like to crank out a few projects…I’d like some new things to wear to work this week. Plus, I need to decide on what I want to do for a photoshoot I have coming up. I have a friend that’s a really avant garde type of photographer, so me and him are collaborating to come up with some neat concepts. Besides that, I’ll just be making more preparations for L.A. (10 weeks and counting!)
Oh yeah…so my show Trueblood had its season 3 premier last night…I was so excited until I found out that we no longer have the HBO channel. I was so upset! Luckily HBO will put new episodes online every Tuesday, but I don’t wanna wait that long! It looks like I will be crashing somebody’s house on Sunday nights…my friends with HBO better be prepared LOL!
Have great week…find something fun to do!
K – Kids: Oh for sure! Not now though…give me about 8-10 years.
L – Living arrangements: At home with my mom for the next 10 weeks…then it’s Los Angeles with my own place and my own space!
M – Mom’s name: Esther…and yes it’s after the book in the Bible
N- Nicknames: oh far too many…Kim, Kimmy, Kimmy Gibbler (I’d like to thank the best friend for that), Princess, other ones that I’d rather not name, lol
O – Overnight hospital stay other than birth: nope…hopefully that won’t change anytime soon either!
Happy Monday everybody! I’m writing to you without the usual Monday malaise that usually comes with it being the beginning of the work week. It’s probably because I’m still coming off the high from this past weekend’s performances of “Legacy”. When I tell you guys we were amazing, I mean we were a-maz-ing! The crowds were great, involved, and had nothing but rave reviews. It was so nice to see people that appreciate the artistry of Michael Jackson come out and support a group of young people that basically put this entire thing together from scratch. You know, being a part of this production made me realize why I do what I do. Being able to costume productions that mean something to people allows me the outlet to help people in my own way. Just knowing that people could come to see a show (or one day, a movie!) that I’ve costumed and walk away feeling inspired or happy is what makes the hours of sewing, shopping, and frustrations worth it. Plus, I was able to work with a really great group of people and we got along well – which I think really showed through in how solid everybody’s performance was. It was just a really great experience and I super glad I was able to be a part of it. Look out for photos from the event soon!
So…how was your weekend? I do hope it was nice! Obviously mine consisted of me living at the theater, but I did manage to get my hair done on Friday afternoon. It’s always so nice to go see my hairstylist (who’s been doing my hair since middle school), but since I went natural, I haven’t had the need to go to the salon every 6 weeks like I used to when I was relaxed. This time though, I was in dire need of a trim (the naps at the ends of my locks were not being nice at all!), so I got that done and I got my high lights re done. Originally, I wanted a caramel brown color, but that went awry…so I ended up with a caramel color that was a bit brighter than I wanted, but not too bad. There are also the subtle red highlights mixed in as well…it isn’t what I wanted at first, but they turned out really neat anyway. Just so long as it isn’t blonde, I’m good!
The rest of my week will consist of me cleaning and fixing some things I’ve been neglecting for the past month due to the show. I need to do laundry and clean the house. I’ve recently added tons of new music to my collection, but it is SO not organized to my liking (I am so anal about my music collection, it’s not even funny) so I’ll be working on weeding out the albums/songs I don’t really care too much for and updating my playlists. To most people this sound like a chore, but it’s fun for me haha! Besides that, I’ll be making calls and preparations for my move (In two months – eek!). My hunt for apartments/roommates is picking up, so I have a lot to think about…not to mention the strenuous job hunt that’s looming in my future…
I hope you all have a great week…I’ve got my mojo back, so look out for some neat stuff this week!
F – Favorite color: Oh man…vibrant shades of green and blue (teal, emerald)…but I love most colors (except pink…that’s my least favorite)
G – Gold or Silver or Platinum: When I’m rolling in my Impala it’s all about the platinum, baby…naw, not really, but I do like platinum out of all these 3.
H – Height: 5’8”
I – Instruments you play: Sadly, that is the one part of artistic expression I haven’t worked on. I would love to learn how to play the harp or guitar though.
J – Jewelry you wear everyday: My class ring (which I don’t even know why I do..I never had any school spirit.) and a pair of earrings from my unnecessarily large collection.
You may have noticed that my posts have been sort of sporadic and short lately…with everything going on (with the show) to me sort of not really feeling inspired (probably because of the show, lol), I haven’t been in the mood to write much. I will be posting at least 1 post a day, but I’m so tired and the show is consuming the rest of my energy so yeah
…I am still reading my dailies and I have tons of stuff to share with you guys, so just be patient while I get my design juices flowing again.
Oh my! It’s June! Good morning…I’m just coming back after a much needed 3 day vacation…although it wasn’t really much of one since we started tech for Legacy (more on that to come). It was nice though to be working (on stuff I care about) as opposed to being at my job (doing stuff I don’t really care about) – so in that sense it was a vacation! Plus, I was able to partake in some delicious BBQ courtesy of my lovely Mama…and even though I didnt get to it until after I came home from tech (1:30 AM), it was great all the same!
As I mentioned earlier, I spent pretty much the entire weekend on Legacy. We open this Thursday, so most of us are in that last minute scramble to get everything pretty much squared away. I sewed all day Saturday because I was supposed to load everything for Sunday’s rehearsal – and I did, but everything wasnt totally completed. And everything probably wont be until like Thursday afternoon, lol! In all seriousness though, I am feeling much better about completing things now that I’ve delegated some things for everyone else to do. I basically just have to do some alterations and finish one underskirt..after that, it’s just polishing some things. Over all though, I think we’re in a good place, the excitement is building for everybody and we’re steadily getting to that WOW point. We had a rough run thru on Monday nite (with costumes) and even though everything was in no way shape or form complete, it is still looking hella awesome especially with our set and lighting. I’m super stoked!
Besides the show, what little free time I do have is consumed by prepping for the big move. I’ve contacted a few people about apartments/roommates and such and a few look promising. For awhile, I’d been dead set on getting my own apartment, but that just may not be feasible at this point. I’d much rather live with a roomate for at least a year because I’m noticing that any apartment I find under $1000 is more than likely in a bad area. Once I get acclimated to LA, I’ll be able to know where I can look for good, safe, and affordable (fairly) one bedrooms. All in all, though, the apprehension I’ve been feeling is slowly going away…I feel like the timing in my mind and the timing in the cosmos (yes I believe in fate, haha) is aligning, so I honestly think and feel that I am supposed to do this. I’m sure they’ll be tons of bumps, but I think I’m ready for them.
The rest of the week will be consumed by the show. I’m going to try and squeeze a hair appointment in on Friday to get my ends clipped (the ‘fro is in dire need of a trim) and get some highlights (since the ones I had have completely grown out)…I was thinking a caramel redish color? We’ll see!
Enjoy your week…and any sunshine!
A – Age: 23 years young!
B – Bed size: A full…totally going to be a California King one of these days…
C – Chore you hate: Cleaning the bathtub…it’s always such a damn workout!
D – Dog’s name: I don’t have a dog…I do have a cat though – Maple Edvard Arthur I
E – Essential start your day item: Listerine – I make sure to get the icky brown kind cause it slaps me awake and makes me minty fresh!
“After one look at this planet any visitor from outer space would say “I want to see the manager.”

Since I’m trying to kill time at work before I clock out for the day, I figured I’d share the top 3 things on my mind at this very second…
…Because I have my final fitting before tech tonight. I have 3 dresses to sew and a ton of things to make alterations on. I’m beyond tired (I almost nodded off in a meeting today) and I’m pretty sick of my sewing room being a complete disater. Basically, I’m tired of my mind and time being consumed by the show. That being said, I am extremely excited for our debut next week and I know that deep down inside, I do love what I’m doing and I care tons for the show – I suppose it’s just like when you’ve spent like every waking hour with your significant other for like a week (and trust me, I’ve done this)…even though you love ’em to pieces, you probably just want a bit of me time – even if it’s just for an hour. That sums up how I’m feeling about the show at this point.
Which leads me to #2…
2) An Old Friend
…Because we’ve been talking and texting way more than we have in the last few months. It would be a lie to say that I don’t miss them…because I have missed them. And everytime we reconnect it’s so extremely comfortable…amongst other convoluted emotions and feelings…We met under the guise of one of us leaving and now that I’m the one that left FL, they decided to move back to where I was…all that made our timing really screwed up as far as dealing with how well we happened to click…I really hope they come to visit me when I move to California…
Which leads me to the final thought…
3) California Move
…Because I’m getting scared since it’s only 3 months away. I’m afraid the only thing I’ll have going out there is money…no job, no apartment, nothing! Well I suppose that’s a bit of a hyperbole, I will be going out there at the beginning of August to secure housing and whatnot, but there are so many unknowns…and now they’re becoming more and more apparent. It will be the first time I will truly have to be self sufficent – paying ALL of my own bills and trying to find a job lucrative enough to support it. Add on top of that my plans to “make it” as a Costume Designer (one of the main reasons why I’m moving to L.A.), and I’m just starting to feel my dreams get a little more grounded. I’m super excited for the future and I know I’m going in the right direction, but still…I’m not afraid to admit that I am a bit frightened of all the unanswered questions.
Life’s a crazy ride, ain’t it!
Good afternoon! I hope this Monday in the 4th week of May finds you in good spirits. I can’t believe we’re almost to June – the year is half-way over!
How was your weekend? Mine was pretty much spent sewing (as usual)…It’s now less than 2 weeks until Legacy opens, so I really have no time to do anything lese but pull for the show and sew for the show. I did get most of my shopping done this weekend, but there are a few more things I need to get – and I have very little let of my budget. Plus, I have to figure out what I can do with my dresses for “Smooth Criminal”. I attempted to dye them with Rit dye (which I’ve finally decided I cannot stand) and the colors came out nothing how I had planned. Right now, I feel like the dresses are ruined, but because I have little money or time left, I will hav eto think quick and see what I can do. I did learn one thing – Rit dye (and the IDye Polyester) are terrible! Never again! Oh well, the true test will be how I’ll make it work! Regardless, I know everything must get done, so it’s just a matter of what will be negelected in order to accomplish that LOL.
Besides working on the show, I was able to get one movie on on Friday night. I finally watched Daybreakers..which I had been meaning to see ever since it was released. I must say that while the movie itself wasn’t the best piece of cinema ever, I did enjoy the execution of how the world would be in 2019 – and if vampirsim was a way of life. I especially enjoyed the colors used in the costuming – deep blood reds of course.
Let’s see…oh yes, I happened to pick up the cutest vintage shirtdress from the thrift store on Tuesday. I can’t wait til I have time time to do some decon work on it…I have a few ideas for it…
Well I best get to my lunch…I’ve got quite a busy week ahead of me…sleep will pretty much be non-existant! Take care, All!

Hello there! Happy Monday…well As happy as a Monday can be anyway! Hope it finds you somewhat ready to face the week…I know I’m as tired as can be…and I’d rather be going anywhere bug to work, but there’s not really much of an option at this point! I’ll keep on, keepin’ on, haha!
I had a fun, productive weekend…how was yours? I love staying busy and this weekend was no exception at all! Seeing as that Legacy is a mere two weeks away, I spent the entire weekend sewing, cutting, and dyeing. I was able to turn out all the costumes for “Remember the Time” and for that I am super proud of myself! As far as production, this was one of my more easier songs to costume, but there’s a lot of detail I wanted to add to really give it that Egyptian look and feel…in fact here’s a sneak peek of some of the collars I was working on…
I can’t wait to fit the collars on the guys wearing them!
It’s that excitement of seeing everyone in everything that I have to keep in mind because honestly, I’m at that point now where I’m somewhat sick of sewing…it’s pretty normal to get that way with any production towards the end…it’s only natural that something that’s been consuming all your time and energy would eventually begin to grind on your nerves…but that being said, I still love the overall feeling of what and why I’m doing what I do…it’s that part you’ve got to remember whenever you get in a designers funk!
Anyways, besides being glued to my sewing machine all weekend, I was able to get out for another preview performance we had at this local club..the crowd was totally into us and I actually ended up dancing “Scream” publicly! I’m not the type to get stage fright, but that most certainly did unnerve me a bit…but I suppose I should get used to it seeing as that Ill probably be performing in it on performance night.
This week will of course be more sewing and shopping for the show…I want to plan it so that I can get some free time to go see “Ironman 2” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street“…and a bunch of other movies I’ve been wanting to see…I will admit that I’m looking forward to the free time I’ll have once the shows are done. Until then, it’s costume-away!
- When I woke up this morning, I knew today would be (exhausting).
- (Love) me.

Good morning, all! It’s Monday…the second week in May and I write to you from a cold and dreary Minneapolis…it really rains on my parade (literally) when I look outside and it looks like November…and somewhat feels like it too! The high today is supposed to be 50…yuck! Oh well, it may be May, but it is the Midwest…so cold weather is never far away.
Despite the weather though, I must say I’m in pretty good spirits. I’ve finally begun to decorate my cube at work, so it’s starting to feel a bit homier. A part of me feels like it makes no sense at all to do this since I’ll be moving in about 15 weeks, but that still is a while so I suppose it’s warranted. I have these really nice picture frames that my friend up in housewares brought down for me and she gave me this cute lamp…totally me since it’s stainless steel, has clean lines, and screams “minimalist style”. It’s a amazing how much better my workspace feels now that I have something other than fluorescent lights to focus my eyes on!
Anyway, enough about work…how was your weekend? Mine was pretty great! Of course yesterday was Mother’s Day…and I tried to find a photo of me and my mama, but I couldn’t find any of our old photo albums! So I didn’t get to post a “Happy Mother’s Day”, but I will share that my sister and I made mom some breakfast in bed, and I made her some really cute PJ boxers out of this awesome tattoo inspired print that says “I Love Mom”…kind of like this…she loved them by the way.
The rest of my weekend was spent costuming and doing laundry. On Saturday night, Legacy had a preview performance at this theater downtown that houses Balls Cabaret. That was a lot of fun…not only did the crew do awesome, we also did a lot of networking and enjoyed some great open mic night acts. I love going to those kinds of shows. I purchased the last of the materials for “Remember the Time”, I finished the men’s costumes for “Thriller”, and I began on one of the women’s dresses for “Thriller”. I ordered this great PVC fabric to makes some kickass latex-looking leggings for “Scream“, so those should be arriving sometime this week. The show is less than 4 weeks away, so I’m in beast mode right now. Like hardcore. Luckily, the bit of help that I do have is turning out to be extremely helpful…it’s amazing how nice it is to have a cutter…all I have to do is grab the fabric and sew!
I’m starting to feel a bit overwhelmed though…there’s a lot going on with the show and at work, so while I revel in being extremely busy, it also causes tons of stress…but that’s what I thrive in – chaos, so it is what it is! I hope you all have a great week…enjoy the sun if wherever you are has it!

Good evening Sparkleshockers! After delays galore, I am finally back from my wonderful vacation in Florida and I must say I enjoyed it immensely! Besides needing to get out of town, the other main reason I went to Tallahassee, FL was to celebrate the graduation of one of my very good friends. It was so nice to see all my friends from college (even though its only been a year, lol) and it was definitely cool to be a “college” kid again. After a 5am flight on Thursday, I arrived to the 80 degree heat and humidity that a Floridian comes to love. The rest of the weekend was a blur of shopping, graduation ceremonies, Amaretto Sours, Southern nightclubs, old friends, and lots of laughter. It totally made the cancellation of my Sunday night flight totally worth it. There was a lot of storms in The Memphis and Atlanta area that caused me to have to miss work and fly out of Florida this morning. As much as I love to travel, I loathe flying so I was a bit on edge – especially during the patches of rough air we hit. But thank the heavens, everything turned out fine and after a nap and a quick email to my boss, I’ve settled into my younger sister’s bed (who’s home from college for summer break – yay!) and am back to getting back to “life”. Is it just me, but does your house always feel a little strange when you come back for a trip? I always feel a little off kilter for a spell until a get back into the swing of things.
The rest of my week will consist of getting back to the grind and buckling down with Legacy. The show is in exactly one month and I have an immense amount of work to do. Its going to be a busy month overall for me…but I love being worked to the bone!I was trying out a new theme here on Sparkleshock, but I don’t really enjoy the gray text…and with out the background I’d like to have, the site would look quite plain…so its back to the original for now!
Enjoy your week all!
